New Year

So much for yesterday's good intentions to craft, after the kids left I did nothing but read blogs, drink coffee and talk on the phone, off to a slow but relaxed start! I also found my pics from New Year, I love this tradition which takes place on Dec 31. Bleigiessen are small lead figures that are heated over a candle until they become liquid then tipped quickly into a bowl of cold water to form your lucky charm for the year!

Looking slightly worried I feel...
hot hot hot...

Once cooled the idea is to hold these rather odd shaped things up against a wall and shine a torch on them and whatever shape you see in the shadow you look up on the list that comes with the box to find out your luck for the year. Even though I've done this many times and have never actually seen anything in the shadow that's remotely close to what's written on the box it doesn't stop me going back for more every year, great fun!

I have never heard of it either, but how cool! I love different traditions and I always want to start them all. The kids would just love something like that, how fun! Melinda
