Happy Valentines Day!
Just quite why this day has to fall right in the middle of the kid's holidays when I have zero time to do anything artistic, I really don't know! But as luck would have it they've all been busy for the last nano second and I've taken a moment to have a go at an idea I saw at work a while ago, waxing old roses!
melt a pan of wax, I used a mixture of what was already in the pot, beeswax I think and some old candles, it needs to be deep enough to completely dunk your roses. The temperature is the key to success, if it's too hot the rose closes and the petals begin to sizzle! too cold and it goes all lumpy. Not unlike Goldilocks and the Three Bears it needs to be just right, I didn't measure the temperature as I can't find the thermometer (of course I can't!) but the wax was warm and the consistency of thick soup. Dunk your roses quickly in the pot allowing any excess to drip off before standing them to dry.
if the wax is quite warm the flowers will turn a vintage shabby chic yellow
you can leave them 'au naturel' or spray them with a little bit of shiny!

No WAY! You are amazing, Margaret. And these look lovely. So dreamy!
That is very interesting. I'm not sure I have wax as I haven't "dipped" into encaustic work yet. The roses look so pretty!
Oh my gosh! These look great! I have never heard of this before...now I need to get some roses, lol. Thanks for sharing!
Hmmmm.... I will have to try this!
Hmmmm, if I'd got some roses for Valentines Day I would definitely have tried this on them......;0) This looks fab, I'll have to give this a go.

This is so awesome! Thanks for the tip, I got some roses today quite unexpectedly, and had been wondering how to preserve them. Now I just need to find some wax to melt! :)
What a fabulous idea! Thank you!
I see you have been playing with the wax again M! ;)

ooo this is really effective Margaret!!! How long do the roses last? xxx
How lovely - what a gorgeous effect.
I used to keep all my roses to dry out. Hubby stopped giving me roses when the poor things were obviousy hot house forced & never opened out ... I get beautiful lillies now - maybe I should hint at roses again !!!
You don´t have time but this is great, never heard about it, i´m gonna try !!! thanks for sharing !!
your roses are splendid M...perfect combo of soft petals and beeswax...nature's bounty!
I always had the best intentions to try this with Columbine from my garden...
