I spent yesterday preparing my Christmas houses although I'm not sure about the roofs now, they don't look very seasonal and may just end up being year round houses. When I started I thought the pattern on the spotty paper was too big and yet now it's the one I like the best.
Last night was the Räbeliechtli parade in the town. All the kids carve a turnip the day before then walk together through the town the following evening. The band leads the way and a horse and cart brings up the rear. It finishes at the school with food and mayhem. The turnip carving can get a bit competitive with some very elaborate designs making a show. This year I went for a simple but effective idea I saw in a Martha Stewart mag (thank you Hera!)

OH Margaret, carved turnips! What an amazing parade, bet it smells good too with candle toasted turnips glowing. I am enchanted by reading this post. I wanna be in a turnip parade....yes, that's me whining ;)
Living in Switzerland has always been a 'dream' to me. When I was lucky enough to visit so many years ago, it just seemed perfect!
Oh I got so excited about your lovely turnips...I also wanted to comment on your brilliant houses M! I am not a huge glitter person, but some of the German glass glitters are really nice....I could imagine a dusting on your roofs....just my 2 cents/pfennigs worth LOL
I loved the turnips, too! I really enjoy the histories of the autumn and winter celebrations and of course the mention of carved turnips comes up regularly. But I've never actually seen one until now! Thank you for posting and by the way - I love all of those wonderful items that you are making! :)
