Last night I downloaded a cool tutorial over at http://donnadowney.typepad.com/simply_me/ I chose the Artquilt as I haven't sewn for such a long time and wanted to see how I'd get on.
I spent the whole time wanting to layer Gesso over everything, scrunch it up, rip it, sand it and cover it with Antique Ink! but no...I persevered, it just proves paper and paint are much more my thing, the sewing machine makes me very cross very quickly, just don't have the patience anymore!
I like the format and will have a go at maybe paper squares on a Gesso covered canvas

I am SO glad you didn't guesso it and mangle it up!!!! If you don't want that HORRENDOUS quilt, box it up and send it to me. I will reimburse your postage! I should design with fabric so so badly!
Margaret. You need to get out more. Staying indoors is muddling your perspective. Your quilt is absolutley GORGEOUS just as it is. Really, send it to me if it offends you so much. ;)
Well! Nathalie has got in before me!! I was going to say exactly the same thing - your quilt is absoloutely fantastic. If you decide not to send it to Nathalie, I'll have it, just to get it out of your way!!
Seriously though, it really is very pretty and the sort of thing that I am hoping to do more of this year as opposed to paper-work (and gesso!)
WOWEE M Plez put me third in line!!! This certainly looks like a success to me. I will have to pop over and check out the tutorial too. TFS! I do enjoy combining fabric, paper and paint! But this creation stands on it's own no paint or gesso needed at all!!! Lovely!
I really love this!! You should try doing the same kind of project just use only paper! This a beautiful project, thanks for sharing it! It doesn't need any of the gesso or ink at ALL!!
Mmmmm, I won't mention 'hard to please', mutter mutter mutter... Have you actually tried slapping some gesso over the fabric eh??? Using the fabric as a canvas, embellishing with a sewing machine eh???
Well there ya go then!
Now - BACK OFF ALL YOU OTHERS, I'M FIRST IN LINE!!! (LOL!)
(it is pretty horrendous, I agree with you Nathalie! lol)
Carole ;)
It doesn't pay to not read one's blogs daily, does it? Here I am 6th in line for the quilt. When I read it I was thinking...what is she talking about with the gesso on this? Yep...Nathalie has summed it up. I think there should be a drawing for it...as in raffle.
These are beautiful!
