The children went back to school this morning and in the space of 3 hours I managed to shop, get my hair cut and start a junk journal, well actually I cheated slightly by putting the junk in the general direction last night. Linda http://lindajos.blogspot.com/ and Nathalie http://nathaliethompson.blogspot.com/ are the inspiration for this one. I layered on a bit of Gesso and after a quick sand it'll be ready to go.
I found a cardboard post packet which makes a perfect cover. I bound it together with my slowly rusting through lack of attention not used for a while BIA but have a sneaking suspicion I might just pull the journal to pieces to work on it. I tend to like to work to the edges of the surface and having a springy thing in the way kind of bothers me and yep I should have thought of that BEFORE I bound it but hey it's the first day back and it takes time to get back in the groove! And no my children don't eat chocolate filled breakfast cereal, I bought it for the packet, really, it's true, like buying wine to get the label, stop laughing ...

hahaha Love the packaging! I love to buy wine for the labels, too! We should NEVER shop together...especially after drinking the wine!
Love this idea of a junk journal! But I would have to try very hard to resist buying lots of strange and exotic packaged food for the packaging!!! This would be a brilliant idea for an international swap, because each country would have different packaging, and you would end up with something different to journal in!!
I have different makes of gesso at the moment. They are precoloured. My white gesso is Atelier and my black gesso is Global, both from Australia. I got the Global gesso through a New Zealand art supply company that sprung from the fact that the guy's artist/teacher wife couldn't source good cheap art supplies for her highschool students. He started a company to import art gear for his wife's painting and gear for her to use with her students and now they have expanded to supply a lot of the country's high schools. But, anyway, I diverse, what I was going to say was that they have started to colour gesso themselves. I saw a gorgeous earthy red oxide colour that they had done. And they were going to do a few other earth shades as well. Couldn't afford to buy any more at the time, but wished that I had. I love the chalkyness of the gessos!
Love your junk journal, lookinhg forward to see what you add. jenxo
ps... i buy chocolate for the different wrappers too ;)

A wonderful journal !!
And here I am wanting a Zutter for the very reason you don't-- to bind junk up with! Personally, I think the paint splotches on the wire binding add something to the art journal.
In my house, I am the one that eats the chocolate cereal!!I am brave, I can admit it....I love this junk journal...It is fun watching what you do with it..and now it it is turning into tags! I love seeing how things evolve...love the colors too on thr brown and blue piece...
